Plot[edit | edit source]
The Walkers arrive in Ashwood; Isaac Walker has just bought the local gym from Jeremy Dawson after outbidding fellow resident Omera Bhaduri, who has been involved in a long-established feud with the Dawsons. Kerry Walker is keen to get to know her neighbours and introduce her youngest son, Ben Walker, to other boys his age. Isaac and Omera's daughters, Emily Walker and Anaya Bhaduri, spark up a friendship; Emily opens up about failing her A-levels, while Anaya reveals that she has not yet told her parents that she has dropped out of university. Meanwhile, Hakeem Bhaduri, Anaya's sister, shows an interest in Emily. Elsewhere, Danny Walker takes the family car to the garage – owned by the Dawsons – after it breaks down. When Danny clashes with Carl Dawson, Jeremy's grandson, over the cause of the breakdown, Jeremy offers Danny a trial shift at the garage, much to Carl's annoyance. Danny notices that Jeremy has his eye on another resident, Sue Morton. Later, the residents gather at The White Horse, the local pub, for a surprise birthday party for Sue, planned by her daughter, Glinda Hardman. Jeremy hopes that he'll be able to ask her out, but when Sue turns up, she gets upset and storms out. Carl, already angered by Danny, starts a fight with Hakeem, and the two are separated. As the Walkers toast to their new start, Omera tells Hakeem that she plans on using them to bring down the Dawsons.
